Letter, 1833 May 11, University of Virginia to William Polk [manuscript].

Polk requests more funds from his father as there is "not I imagine an individual student of this institution who passes genteely and is at all respected by the students generally, that has got through here this session with less than, at the least calculation five hundred and fifty dollars." He reports on student reaction to an incident involving President Jackson and mentions that Washington Irving passed through the University on his way to Natural Bridge.
